Chris Cornell’s Scream
May 30, 2009
What happened to the former frontman of Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog and Audioslave? Soundgarden (1984-1997) is one of the most successful rock bands back in the 90s along with Temple of the Dog (1990-1992, 2003) which is later known as Pearl Jam. Audioslave (2001-2007) is also a success which sold millions and which also received 3 Grammy nominations.
Chris Cornell and his distinctive voice still capture the heart of the million fans of his former bands until today. Even with his solo career the fans embrace his past two solo albums, Euphoria Morning (1999) and Carry On (2007). But with the release of his latest and third solo album called Scream the fans have mixed reaction. Unlike the past two solo albums Cornell changes track from alternative rock to R&B, pop and electronic. The album is produced by Timbaland and JRoc which notably influences Chris Cornell’s new music preferences.
Scream is released last March 10, 2009 and debut at #10 on the Billboard 200 but it drops 55 places on the second week. The drop on sales is due to the mixed reception of Cornell’s fans and critics reviews. In Metacritic the album received 42/100 which is based on 19 reviews of mainstream critics and 3.5 out of 10 from users review.
I am not a huge fan of Chris Cornell and I only became a fan when he front Audioslave. I’m not a pro to discuss the past and present Chris Cornell because I rarely listen to his past recordings. For me, Scream is not a bad album or what others called a piece of shit. If you will listen to the whole album you will notice that Cornell’s trademark is all over it and it’s a feel good music. Most of the fans wants to hear Cornell to sing Soundgarden, Temple of the Dogs and Audioslave music where they are inclined to which is rock and don’t want any other genre like R&B on their music library. Real fans appreciate every music their favorite artist makes but like other said you cannot please everybody.
